| Many social-ecological system(SES)-based approaches have been proposed to address environmental problems. Most social-ecological frameworks developed to date, however, lack clear operational linkages between humans and nature to efficiently guide SESs toward resilience. A conceptual framework designed to be operational is therefore necessary, as well as a network of research platforms with which to apply it. We defined explicit coupling processes that can be used as leverages to pilot an SES toward sustainability. | Dentre os jardins criados pelo homem, destaca-se o jardim botânico, que possui diversas funções: científica, educacional, social, estética, histórica e ecológica. O atual Jardim Botânico de São Paulo, fundado oficialmente em 1938, apresenta todas essas funções, mas o registro de sua história carecia de revisão e atualização. | The establishment of bioenergy crops will affect ecological processes and their interactions and thus has an influence on ecosystem services provided by the lands on which these crops are grown. The regional-scale effects of bioenergy choices on ecosystem services need special attention because they often have been neglected yet can affect the ecological, social, and economic aspects of sustainability. A regional-scale perspective provides the opportunity to maximize ecosystem services, particularly with regard to water quality and quantity issues, and also to consider other aspects of ecological, social, and economic sustainability. We give special attention to cellulosic feedstocks because of the opportunities they provide. |

| O objetivo deste trabalho foi integrar, em uma base de dados geoespacial, informações a respeito da distribuição dos solos na paisagem, bem como de seus atributos dentro de uma Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN), situada no município de Lobato, Estado do Paraná. Todas as características de aspecto físico e morfológico obtidas foram incorporadas em um Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG). Diante dos dados das análises e do estudo de sua distribuição espacial, as unidades fisiográficas passaram a constituir unidades resultando na produção de mapas. |

| Este trabalho apresenta a caracterização geomorfológica do município de Luís Eduardo Magalhães, BA, na escala 1:100.000. A metodologia utilizada para o mapeamento geomorfológico foi baseada no uso de imagens de altimetria Shuttlle Radas Topografhy Mission (SRTM), de técnicas de geoprocessamento e de trabalhos de campo. A geomorfologia foi caracterizada em três níveis taxonômicos: 1. nível: domínio morfoestrutural, composto pela cobertura sedimentar São Franciscana (100%); 2. nível: regiões geomorfológicas compostas pelas chapadas do São Francisco (28,7%) e 3. nível: unidades geomorfológicas, formado pelas unidades chapadas intermediárias (42%), topos (26%), frente de recuo erosivo (22%), planície intraplanáltica (7%) e veredas (3%). | ABSTRACT Inadequate and intensive management of soils can promote changes in their chemical attributes and impair the quality of surface and groundwater, especially in hillside areas. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify possible changes in soil and water chemical composition of hillside areas cultivated with horticulture.
